Becoming Catholic

Call (863-3938) or email Father Ronald Haft, haftr@stpeterinchains.org, pastor or Megan Deaton, deatonm@stpeterinchains.org, religious education coordinator, for information on the RCIA Process. RCIA stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults.


Sacrament Preparation

Baptism
Call the pastor, Father Haft (863-3938) to schedule a Baptism. Baptism Preparation Classes are available through the religious education office. Call 863-3938 x302 or email deatonm@stpeterinchains.org for more information.

First Reconciliation
Celebrated in the month of December. Children enrolled in grade two, in both the school and the PREP program, prepare with religious instruction during class time and with family activities.An information meeting will be held October 30th after the 9:00 am and 11:00 am masses. This meeting is for all school, PREP, and home school parents who have children preparing to make his or her First Reconciliation.

First Communion
Celebrated on the first Sunday of May. Children enrolled in grade two, in both the school and the PREP program, prepare with religious instruction during class time and with family activities. An information meeting is held in January.

Confirmation
Celebrated every other year on the odd numbered years, 2011, 2013, 2015, etc. Students enrolled in the seventh or eighth grade dayschool or PREP program prepare with religious instruction and a retreat. An information meeting is held in October.

 

Sunday Morning Religious Education Programs

Early Childhood/Sunday School
For children ages 4 and 5 by September 30. Held during the 11:00 Mass in the school, children discover God’s world through crafts, activities, songs and prayer.  Classes are offered beginning  in September and run through the month of April. Registration required.

Nursery
For children ages 1-3. Held in the parish center during the 11:00 Mass, children are supervised by an adult with the help of teen volunteers. Offered year-round, no registration required.

CLOW
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is held each Sunday during the 11:00 Mass. Students in Grade One to Pre First Communion are invited by the priest to participate in the Word of the Lord at their level. The presiding priest will
dismiss the children before the First Reading. Children are lead by an adult volunteer to the music room in the basement of the church and are brought back to church for the Offertory Procession. Children sit with their family before dismissal and after they process back into church.  No registration required.

PREP Program
Parish Religious Education Program for students in grades one through eight who do not attend the parish school. The program begins in October and runs through April. Classes are held in the school on Sunday mornings from 10:00 -11:15 AM. Registration required.

High School Religion Class
Due to low attendance numbers, this year we will be combining the High School PREP program with the High School Youth Ministry. The group will be meeting on Sunday evenings. Activities will be posted in the bulletin throughout the year.

Youth Ministry

The High School Youth Ministry program offers a variety of social, spiritual and service events throughout the school year. These opportunities are listed in the parish bulletin. All parishioners in Grades 9 through 12 are invited to participate. Medical release form is required for all those wishing to participate.

Opportunities are available throughout the year for Adult Faith Formation. Information is listed in the parish bulletin. 

Homeschooling Families

Please contact the Religious Education offce (863-3938 x302) to see what resources St. Peter in Chains' can offer to your family and to notify us of any children that will be celebrating the sacraments for the first time.

 

Child Protection Decree

All employees and volunteers of St. Peter in Chains Church should be familiar with the Archdiocese of Cincinnati “Decree on Child Protection.”  All employees and volunteers are required to participate in a Decree on Child Protection Workshop and be fingerprinted prior to their contact with parish/school programs involving children.
